Wake Up To The Power Of One
The Law Of Visualization: How to Visualize
The Strong Mind Beats All Kinds
Great physical condition can get you far, but the best athletes in the world know a strong mind beats all kinds. Using the powerful tool of visualization as a foundation, the greatest athletes have made world-beating achievements — and you can, too.
1. Define your goal.
2. Visualize results.
3. Take action daily.
These are the simple steps you can implement into your life today to start building your psyche strength through visualization.
Simply close your eyes and activate your mind.
The Power and Practice of Visualization
The practice of visualization doesn’t have to do with the law of attraction and wishing your desires into existence. We’re talking about the law of visualization and working towards bringing what you see in your mind into reality.
When people hear the word visualization, they instantly put up a roadblock. They can’t do it. It’s not for them. Or worst of all: “I don’t believe in that fluffy new age stuff.”
Yet, without even knowing it, you use visualization every day. All day long, as you stress and imagine the possible negative outcomes of different scenarios in your life, you’re practicing visualization.
We all have the power to control the movie playing in our minds, and it’s up to us to decide whether that movie is a disaster or one with a happy ending.
The Three Visualization Steps
- Step 1 Define Your Goal - To begin the process of visualization, you must have a clearly defined goal that you can create an image of in your mind. What do you want? Why do you want it? What are you willing to sacrifice to get it? Clearly define your goal in your mind. Using meditation techniques such as breathing exercises to calm your mind can help you focus and create a strong, clear visual.
- Step 2 Visualize Results - There are two main types of visualization you can work on: outcome visualization and process visualization. For outcome visualization, imagine the achievement of your goal, how it feels, how it looks.
Process visualization is more in-depth. You imagine each step in the process of achieving your goal. In your mind, begin picturing the entire process of achieving your goal, from start to finish. No small detail is insignificant. Imagine what it feels like, what it smells like, and imagine yourself achieving the goal repeatedly. Let the glorious feeling of accomplishment wash over you. - Step 3 Take Action Daily - Visualization works, but only if you do. So, take action.
It’s your life, and you are solely responsible for creating your future. Put in the three minutes of visualization work first thing in the morning, then put the physical work in throughout the day to work towards your goal. If you have the discipline and determination to keep your goal clearly in your mind for long enough, and the strength to consistently put the work in, your dream will become reality.
Be consistent in your visualization practice. Repeat these three steps every day, and you’ll witness your life change before your very eyes. Remember, a strong mind beats all kinds.
The Science Behind Visualization
Scientific studies are proving just how powerful the practice of visualization can be when we use it consciously, instead of compulsively, like when we visualize negative thoughts. A study conducted by exercise psychologist Huang Yue found that similar brain patterns activated in weightlifters physically lifting hundreds of pounds and weightlifters who only visualized lifting the same weight.
By comparing the results of those who performed the physical exercise with those who only visualized performing physical exercise, Yue found that strength increased by 53% in the group that performed the exercise, while the strength of the group that visualized the exercise increased by 35%.
It makes us wonder: What would the results have been if a third group had first visualized and then put in the physical work?
Not only can visualization help you achieve your physical goals, but it can also take some of the weight off your mind. It’s hard to achieve your goals when all you can do is worry about the negatives, your disaster movie. A psychological study found that visualization is effective at decreasing self-reported stress and increasing motivation.
These studies demonstrate that using visualization can and will increase your mental and physical strength. It’s no wonder the athletes who utilize the power of visualization are so successful.
But, how can you use visualization in your own life? By using the three simple steps above for just three minutes a day, first thing in the morning, you can get started using the most powerful tool in your arsenal.
